• Hassan Pordeli, the Hugh Culverhouse Professor of Economics at Jacksonville University, will discuss “The Current State of the Local and National Economy for 2012” tonight at the San Jose Country Club. The event is hosted by Retirement Strategies Inc. He will discuss the global, national and regional economies and forecast likely developments. • Jacksonville-based CSX announced that the company has been named a finalist in CivilianJobs.com’s 2012 Most Valuable Employer for Military ranking. CivilianJobs.com is a career resource organization that connects American employers with military talent. Nearly one in five CSX employees has served in the military and many continue to hold Reserve or National Guard status. In 2011 CSX hired about 4,000 employees. Of those, nearly 1,000 are military veterans. In 2012, CSX plans to hire about 3,500 people.
• The CoreLogic research firm reported that Jacksonville home prices, including distressed sales, fell 0.4 percent in January from January 2011 and fell 5.3 percent in December compared to December 2010. Excluding distressed sales, year-over-year prices rose 3.1 percent in January and remained the same in December.
• CMC Jacksonville, an Associa company, will hold a free board workshop March 17 to focus on becoming a more effective community association board member, including board certifications. The workshop starts at 9:30 a.m. at the University of North Florida University Center. Topics include the roles and responsibilities of association board members.
