JEA customers are approaching the fourth year of a water and sewer rate increase and a board of directors committee will discuss rescinding the increase for the final year of the agreement on Monday.

The JEA board’s Finance and Audit Committee will meet to discuss staff recommendations to “reduce the previously approved water and sewer rates that are scheduled to become effective October 1, 2012.”

“If the committee approves staff recommendations, then those recommendations will be considered by the board of directors,” said Gerri Boyce, media relations coordinator for JEA.

Immediate past board Chair Ron Townsend is the chair of the Finance and Audit Committee. He will be joined by one of the newest members of the board, Lisa Strange Weatherby, who is replacing Jim Gilmore, who reached his term limit.

Mayor Alvin Brown appointed her and City Council confirmed the appointment a week ago.

The committee also will receive its first budget presentation for the 2012-13 fiscal year from JEA Chief Financial Officer Paul McElroy. The presentation is scheduled to take an hour.

The JEA budget for the 2011-12 fiscal year was more than $2 billion.
