In many locations nationwide and locally, shoppers are camping in front of stores to be the first through the doors for "Black Friday," historically the busiest retail day of the year.

Most are looking for the lowest prices of the holiday season, while some seek items that may be in short supply this year and available only to the earliest shoppers.

While there aren't any shoppers camping out on Downtown sidewalks, the neighborhood offers gift-buying opportunities, especially in the category of merchandise not generally found in suburban stores. Most Downtown retailers are open Friday and the shops at the Landing are scheduled to be open until after 7 p.m., when Jacksonville's official Christmas tree is lit in the courtyard.

Here's a sample of what's being offered by some Downtown's retailers.
