The warm summer weather and plenty of water have resulted in flourishing foliage in the “Great Streets” hanging flower baskets Downtown.

When the baskets were replaced in March, just before the Jacksonville Jazz Festival, each was custom-designed with species compatible with each location’s amount of direct sunlight.

New varieties were chosen, including impatiens, coleus, sweet potato vines, verbenas, begonias and geraniums.

In addition to regular afternoon rains that have kept the plants hydrated, Downtown Ambassadors has maintained its daily watering schedule, rain or shine.

The baskets are scheduled to be replaced in November with a selection of more cold-tolerant plants.
