There is one week remaining to view the 2013 edition of the Museum of Science & History's annual summer dinosaur exhibit.
"Be the Dinosaur: Life in the Cretaceous" closes at 5 p.m. Tuesday after thousands of visitors have viewed the traditional displays and entered a 3-D virtual world where they interacted with computer-generated dinosaurs.
The exhibit allows up to 12 players to simultaneously control their dinosaur as they search for food and water and try to avoid becoming food, said Christie Leonard, museum curator.
"People are fascinated by dinosaurs. We've had a dinosaur exhibit at the museum every summer for more than 10 years, but this is the first one that's interactive. It's like an online game," she said.
Also in the exhibit are life-size fossil replicas, a field station that simulates an archaeological dig and a safari vehicle.
MOSH is open regular hours this week, including on Labor Day: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. today and Thursday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, noon-5 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Friday admission is a discounted rate of $5 all day.
Also this weekend, a new "Motown Cosmic Concert" is ready for its debut at 9 p.m. Friday in the Bryan-Gooding Planetarium.
The next feature exhibit, "Great Ball of Fire: Comets, Asteroids and Meteors," opens Sept. 14. The exhibit includes a collection of authentic meteorites and an explanation of NASA's planetary protection plan.
