In what new president Carol Zingone termed "an awesome kickoff to 2013," NEFAR celebrated its change of command last month with a packed house at the Southpoint Marriott.

The local real estate association named its award winners and showed a lot of enthusiasm as its chief executive officer, Glenn East, managed the hefty agenda program into a two-hour show.

"All the indicators are good," said Zingone, "and you can feel the energy in this room. This is one big family and we want to stay that way."

The Prudential Network Realty agent led the ticket of new officers and its new Realtor of the Year, Holly McMurry of The Legends of Real Estate.

A major theme was honoring Watson Realty's Dane Leslie, who completed his second year as president. The NEFAR term is one year but Leslie's president-elect, Stephanie White of Magnolia Properties, left the area just before her installation and Leslie agreed to stay on.

"I'd do it all over again," he said. "It has been a fantastic ride. I can credit a lot of people but let me single out Glenn (East.) When I took over, I asked him to tell me what I was supposed to do and where I was supposed to go. He made it easy."
