"The response was overwhelming," said Ronaldo Bonachela Friday as the lunch rush was waning on opening day at Brazilian Corner, the new Brazilian restaurant and sandwich shop along Forsyth Street at Ocean Street.
Bonachela and his wife, Raquel, who is the chef at the restaurant, closed the former submarine sandwich shop for about two weeks to redecorate the interior and exterior and install a kitchen.
Brazil Corner's menu features Brazilian cuisine in addition to traditional sandwiches, including the best-sellers from the former sandwich shop. Salads and vegetarian items are available.
Friday's lunch special was Frango com Qiabo, chicken cooked with okra and green peppers, served with beans and rice. A different item from the menu will be selected each day for the lunch special, said Bonachela.
Traditional breakfast is served beginning at 7 a.m. Monday-Friday. Brazilian Corner is open weekdays until 4 p.m. Saturday hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
