Let there be (more) light is the driving force behind "IlluminateJax," a proposed initiative to install lights on Downtown's office towers.

Margie Seaman, national director of commercial real estate services for Seller's Realty Group Inc., said the idea first came up about a year ago and has gained momentum.

She is joined in the effort by architectural lighting design consultant David LaFitte, the design firm Marquis, Halback Inc. and Sesco Lighting Inc.

"We just kept talking about how important branding our skyline could be to our city. It's a marketing idea that can give people civic pride," Seaman said.

New advances in lighting technology can provide options for lighting up Downtown's skyline whether by casting light on the side of a building or installing LEDs directly onto buildings.

"There are a lot of possibilities and a lot of price points. We're not going for a Las Vegas look. We're after artful illumination," Seaman said.

The project will be formally introduced Sept. 20 when the Downtown Council of the JAX Chamber meets for breakfast at The University Club in Riverplace Tower along the Southbank.
