Days before the Jacksonville Port Task Force will meet for the first time, Mayor Alvin Brown has named a couple of additions.

Brown announced Tuesday that Mark Middlebrook, executive director of the St. Johns River Alliance, and Lathun Brigman, Beaver Street Fisheries general manager, will join 13 others announced last month.

As outlined by Brown at the outset, the group will review the economic and environmental impacts of deepening the Jacksonville’s harbor to 47 feet, while determining ways the city can pay its share of such a project. It also has been charged to rally support for the port’s initiatives.

In a news release, Brown said the two new additions “bring a wealth of relevant experience and expertise” to the group being co-chaired by John Baker of Patriot Transportation and Martin E. “Hap” Stein of Regency Centers.

While mostly comprised of members with a business background, Middlebrook joins Quinton White, Marine Science Research Institute at Jacksonville University executive director, as another with a river-focus.

The task force will meet at 9 a.m. Friday at City Hall.
