Owners of the Growing Room Child Development Centers in Jacksonville bought 2 acres near Mayo Clinic Florida for development of their second location in the county.
Tallahassee-based Mayo GR Land LLC, comprising managers James Bettinger and Michael Zoda, paid $547,148 for two adjacent parcels at 14146 Marsh Woods Court and 4292 Pablo Professional Court.
SmartBank of Destin issued two mortgages totaling $3.29 million.
The warranty deeds and mortgages were dated Feb. 13 and recorded Wednesday with the Duval County Clerk of Court.
Mayo GR bought the Marsh Woods Court land from Synovus Bank and the Pablo Professional Court property from Pablo Pines Development LLC. The properties are vacant.
Bettinger and Zoda also own the first Jacksonville Growing Room of Bartram Park, which opened in June at 13926 Village Lake Circle.
Growing Room Child Development Centers is based in Columbus, Ga. Its website shows 10 centers, with four in Columbus, three in Tallahassee, one in Bonita Springs, one in Auburn, Ala., and the Bartram location in Jacksonville.
The Daily Record reported Sept. 25 that Growing Room planned an almost 15,000-square-foot location near Mayo Clinic Florida.
The city and the St. Johns River Water Management District were reviewing plans for a 14,632-square-foot child-development center on 2 acres at 14146 Marsh Woods Court in the Pablo Professional Park. Tocoi Engineering LLC is the project engineer and Jax GR Land LLC is the client. Jax GR Land owns the Bartram Park property.
The Growing Room of Bartram Park is open 6:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. on weekdays.
Mayor’s Commission to honor 4 women
The Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women in will name four women as its 2014 Women’s History Month Poster Honorees at a breakfast March 18 at the University of North Florida Student Union. The theme this year is “Standing strong, standing together.”
Poster honorees will be announced at the event, chosen from among the top 10 finalists: Sandy Bartow, Pat Blanchard, Amy Buggle, Elexia Coleman-Moss, Donna Orender, Susan Ponder-Stansel, Brenda Simmons-Hutchins, Judith Smith, Ann Williams and the late Carolyn Williams.
The commission partners with the UNF Thomas G. Carpenter Library in the annual awards.

Railex seeks reviews for $106M project
Railex LLC continues to take steps to develop a 250,000-square-foot cold-storage warehouse-distribution center in South Jacksonville that should employ 310 people by 2018.
The St. Johns River Water Management District is reviewing an application for a 23.6-acre site at 6140 Philips Highway.
Riverhead, N.Y.-based Railex serves the food, beverage, pharmaceutical and manufacturing industries.
Florida East Coast Railway owns the property, which is vacant land zoned for heavy industrial use.
Hansen-Rice of Nampa, Idaho, is listed as the contractor. Almond Engineering is the agent. Environmental Services Inc. is the environmental consultant.
The Daily Record reported Sept. 25 that Railex negotiated $8.8 million in city and state incentives to develop the $105.7 million project.
A project summary filed with the city says Railex proposes to buy an 18-acre tract of undeveloped rail-spur property along Philips Highway adjacent to the Florida East Coast Railway marshaling yard.
Railex proposes to build a multimodal center to warehouse and distribute refrigerated freight. It would be served by spur rail and support yard rail to handle 40-85 car unit trains within a 24-hour period.
The $105.7 million development cost comprises $2.3 million for land acquisition, $34.8 million in building construction, $1.7
million in manufacturing and packaging equipment, $6.2 million for warehouse equipment, racking and technology infrastructure, $700,000 in furniture and fixtures and $60 million for refrigerated rail cars and intermodal trailers.
Railex also pledges to generate 310 jobs by the end of 2018 at an average wage of $47,851.
City spokeswoman Kristen Sell said Railex is in the permitting process with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
