Krispy Kreme, Dunkin' Donuts preparing for new locations
Permit applications are in review for construction of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts in Arlington and Dunkin' Donuts at Beach and Hodges boulevards.
The Arlington Krispy Kreme is planned at 7612 Merrill Road, west of the Interstate 295 East Beltway and near the Waffle House under construction.
Aarene Contracting LLC is the contractor for the $566,123 project. The almost 2,500-square-foot restaurant includes a drive-thru. Plans indicate 30 seats.
JDL Corp. of Winston-Salem, N.C., is the developer.
As reported Nov. 7, the Winston-Salem-based Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. chain, which registered the name "Original Glazed" for its signature doughnut, is targeting Arlington for its fourth Jacksonville store.
It has locations in East Arlington/West Beaches at 12973 Atlantic Blvd., in Mandarin at 11117 San Jose Blvd. and in West Jacksonville at 810 Cassat Ave.
The Cassat Avenue site was a reconstruction. Krispy Kreme operated there for 35 years before closing in 2005. It demolished the structure, rebuilt and opened May 28.
Closer to the Beaches, the city is reviewing a permit for R.P. Witt Construction Inc. to build an almost 2,000-square-foot Dunkin' Donuts at 13627 Beach Blvd., next to the Bojangles' Famous Chicken 'n Biscuits. The site is north of Beach Boulevard and west of Hodges.
Donahue Architecture is the architect for the project, shown at a construction cost of $300,000. Plans indicate inside and outside seating.
Veloce Pizzeria build-out pending
Jenkins Construction Inc. II is the contractor for the proposed $340,000 build-out for Veloce Pizzeria Napoletana at 1406 Hendricks Ave., at the corner of Nira Street. The city is reviewing a permit application.
Its website is velocepizza.com, which indicates an opening date in March. Its Facebook page is Veloce Pizzeria Napoletana.
The 7,500-square-foot, full-service restaurant will seat 180 and feature Forni wood-burning brick ovens that can cook pizzas quickly, the plans show.
The Facebook page describes the food and focuses on the arrival of its hand-built artisan wood ovens that reach more than 900 degrees.
"Once the pizza is created, it takes one minute to bake."
It says the ovens are built by fifth-generation Italian artisans and constructed with volcanic rock from Mount Vesuvius.
The partners in Veloce Pizzeria Napoletana LLC are local restaurateurs Rudy Theale and Ridge Sink. The company is based at 2315 Beach Blvd. near the Intracoastal Waterway in the Beach Marine building.
