Sakura Buffet opening at Regency Plaza

The city OK'd build-out for Sakura Buffet in Regency Plaza at 9764 Atlantic Blvd., in the Office Max-anchored center near Regency Square Mall. JLO Builder Inc. is the contractor for the build-out of almost 12,000 square feet at a project cost of $350,000.

Waffle House building in Northwest Jacksonville

Waffle House is putting up a new restaurant in Northwest Jacksonville at 11844 Lem Turner Road, near the Interstate 295 West Beltway.

Waffle House Inc. is the contractor for the 1,635-square-foot project at a construction cost of $210,000. It also is putting up two signs at a project cost of $11,000.

At least a dozen Waffle House restaurants operate in Northeast Florida, with at least 10 in Duval County. Another is under construction along Merrill Road near the Interstate 295 East Beltway.

Applebee's re-signing Westside restaurant

Applebee's is working on remodeling a Westside restaurant into its "Community" theme and this week landed permits for awnings and 15 exterior signs at a project cost of $76,817. Elite Images Advertising Consultants Inc. is the contractor.

As the Daily Record reported Monday, Applebee's will remodel six Jacksonville area restaurants to reflect the "Community" theme, starting with the 843 Lane Ave. restaurant. It is scheduled to close Sunday and reopen at 11 a.m. Jan. 24.

The new look focuses on education, nonprofit organizations and first responders. Interior wall decor will consist of photos from local high schools and universities, professional and college sports teams and community groups, including the YMCA, Boys & Girls Clubs and Jacksonville fire and police departments.

The city approved the Lane Avenue restaurant renovations in December. Hughes Brothers Construction of Alabama LLC is the contractor for the $120,000 project.

The city also has approved a permit for Hughes Brothers Construction to renovate the almost 4,800-square-foot Applebee's at 6251 103rd St. in Southwest Jacksonville at a project cost of $170,524.

Vino Volo opening at JIA

The city is reviewing a permit for Vino Volo to renovate space in Concourse C at Jacksonville International Airport. The San Francisco-based company plans to build-out a 1,150-square-foot space for a wine bar and café at a project cost of $114,000.

"Vino Volo Discover Great Wines" is planned in No. 209 in the concourse. The vinovolo.com site says Vino Volo operates in cities and airports across North America. The site lists 24 locations. Of those, some airports have multiple Vino Volos.

Most locations offer lunch, dinner and small plates and some offer breakfast.

The website also has an online wine shop.

Zaxby's plans SW Jacksonville location

Zaxby's is closer to opening at 9710 Applecross Road in Southwest Jacksonville. Jasz Group Inc. is the owner. Auld & White Constructors LLC is the contractor for the almost 3,850-square-foot restaurant on 1.4 acres at a project cost of $625,000. The city is reviewing a construction permit application.

Dunkin' Donuts to build in Baymeadows

Dunkin' Donuts intends to build-out a 23-seat, 2,000-square-foot shop in a new retail building at 8520 Baymeadows Road. It's a $150,000 project. A permit is in review.

The city OK'd construction Wednesday of the 4,000-square-foot shell retail building, designed for two tenants. Silverking Contracting Inc. is the contractor for the $250,000 project.

Olive Garden renovating

Olive Garden is renovating its Regency area restaurant. Contractor Big Service Inc. is providing interior and exterior accessibility upgrades, at 2,500 square feet, at a project cost of $60,000.

The city also has been reviewing plans for renovations for the 6050 Youngerman Circle restaurant, considered the Orange Park location, and the 10144 Philips Highway store, in The Avenues area.

Olive Garden has said the three are being considered for remodeling. The Regency, Orange Park and Avenues restaurants were built in 1990-91.

Smoothie King plans San Jose site

The city approved work for Smoothie King to build-out at 9901 San Jose Blvd., No. 1. It's a $74,500 project.
