EverBank Field improvements are on the way after the city approved a permit Thursday for the foundation of a project that will bring the world’s largest scoreboards to Jacksonville.
The project has a cost of $58 million and is partly described as installing “auger cast piles and pile cap foundation for video board towers.” It also includes rerouting utilities.
Officials from the city and Jacksonville Jaguars in June announced the $63 million joint project that would bring the world’s largest scoreboards, an upgraded north end zone deck and water features to the city-owned facility.
Jaguars owner Shad Khan will pay for $20 million of the project, while the city will use a portion of Duval County bed taxes to cover the other $43 million.
City Council approved the deal in November. The improvements are scheduled to be complete by the start of the 2014 season.
