Lack of access to local government for some time has been a criticism among residents, but a new city website launched Wednesday is designed to change that perception.
Called JaxSource 1.0, the website allows the public to look at city departments, divisions and independent agencies to see how they are focused, how well they are doing and what areas need better support.
The site currently has 35 “snapshots” featuring topics such as Jacksonville Fire and Rescue’s response times, the number of Jacksonville Public Library computer sessions and the
number of veterans working for the city.
The system was built in-house by the Information Technologies Division in stages over the past two years.
Mayor Alvin Brown said the initiative will inspire city employees to achieve more while providing residents transparency
in government.
“Some people call it data-driven government,” Brown said. “I call it smart government.”
The reports will be updated quarterly. Enhancements to the program will be released when ready, including those that will provide better review of the city’s finances.
