Alan Mosley’s work history began 40 years ago when, while attending Englewood High School, he got a part-time job with the city duplicating blueprints and operating a mimeograph machine in the Planning Department.

In February, he was named the JAX Chamber vice president of transportation, energy and logistics. Mosley also will serve as executive director of the North Florida Transportation Business Alliance, an advocacy group for transportation projects likely to benefit the local economy.

In between, Mosley has logged a career that includes professional engineer, city director of public works, chief administrative officer for former Mayor John Peyton and district secretary for the Florida Department of Transportation.

Mosley said his new post offers an opportunity to create jobs and maintain the quality of life in North Florida by promoting infrastructure initiatives and the growth of alternative energy.

“We need to make new energy, like natural gas, a catalyst,” Mosley said. “We’ve got the framework for success.”

On the transportation side, Jacksonville has long been known as a hub for logistics and that position must be maintained. One way to do that, Mosley said, is to ensure that the private sector understands what the public sector is doing. His experience and perspective should come in handy.

“We have to make sure the business community is in synch with transportation planning,” he said. “It’s in my wheelhouse.”
