“Thank you for riding JTA” was the message Monday morning at Rosa Parks, Gateway and Regency Square transit hubs and Monday afternoon at Downtown’s Central Skyway Station.
Free bottled water and snacks were offered to riders to mark the Jacksonville Transportation Authority’s “Customer Appreciation Day” and to officially begin the May 12-18 National Transportation Week.
The annual observance was created in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy and ratified by Congress to recognize each year the week including the third Friday of May as National Transportation Week.
“We wanted to personally thank our customers for their support over the years,” said authority CEO Nathaniel Ford, who greeted bus riders at Rosa Parks transit hub.
Authority representatives will be distributing information through Friday at all three
transit hubs and Saturday at Rosa Parks transit hub only to introduce JTA’s Route Optimization Initiative, the most comprehensive redesign of bus routes and schedules in more than 30
years.
“We want to take our resources and make our service more efficient, more direct and faster,” said Ford. “That’s how we will grow our ridership.”
