The Southside area near the St. Johns Town Center is slated to have two developments starting over the next year — one creating an influx of new homes, the other much more.
Eckstein Investments will start developing 600 luxury residential apartments under the “Loree” brand along A.C. Skinner Parkway. The first phase will break ground in January and be a three-story building, with the second phase a four-story building starting later in the year. The developments will front Butler Boulevard and have one-, two- and three-bedroom homes.
Mark Farrell, owner of Killashee Investments, brokered the deal and said the residences will mainly target young professionals but also appeal to families. A website for the apartments should be up in January, he said.
Months later and several miles away will be an even bigger development.
Farrell helped Eckstein close on 115 acres off Gate Parkway near Interstate 295, which will be turned into a high-end mixed-use development with office, retail, multifamily housing and a hotel. The property is located just south of the FBI Jacksonville Division building, Farrell said, and will incorporate the topography of the area including a creek and lake.
He said the hope is that the large-scale project can start sometime in the second or third quarter of next year.
In terms of potential clients for that mixed-use development, Farrell said the group has been approached unsolicited by several brands and companies, but he declined to provide specifics.
Joe Eckstein, local manager of Eckstein Investments, was unavailable for comment Wednesday.
