Fifty years ago today, Hurricane Dora blasted through North Florida, ravaging homes along the coastline and bringing 6 feet of floodwater into Downtown Jacksonville.

The area received $8.2 million in federal disaster aid and $1.8 million to rebuild the 6-mile-long seawall.
