Carlucci said he and his wife were inspired by the $75,000 challenge gift for the park made last week by attorney Steve Pajcic. Another reason, Carlucci said, is that projects on the fringes of the urban core, such as the Brooklyn apartment and retail developments and the Shipyards property, have received so much publicity. “We thought this would be an opportunity to validate the walkable core,” Carlucci said.
