City notes: Motor home, other vehicles up for sale at Sheriff's Office public auction

A 2004 Marathon Prevost, a 1993 Nissan pickup truck and a 2008 Chevrolet Impala will go to the highest bidder Thursday as part of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office public auction.

Thirty vehicles will be sold at the auction that begins at 10 a.m. at EverBank Field, Parking Lot F. The items can be inspected starting at 9 a.m.

All purchases must be settled by 2 p.m., with acceptable payment methods being cash or a cashier’s check made payable to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

A $100 non-refundable deposit will be required at the completion of each winning bid, with the office requiring a $500 non-refundable deposit for items with a set minimum price.

The Prevost, being the most expensive of the bunch, will require a $2,500 non-refundable cash deposit.

Everything is sold as-is without warranty.

 

Franklin Graham festival offering classes to reignite local churches

The Greater Jacksonville Festival of Hope with Franklin Graham will host classes at 18 local churches next month to train people to do the work of the ministry.

The classes are held in partnership with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

For 60 years, Billy Graham himself has invested in these classes, which are designed to reignite and refresh the churches of Jacksonville.

“These classes are vital to learning how to share your faith,” said Eric Boutieller, director of the Greater Jacksonville Festival of Hope. “Dr. Graham had a vision to equip believers with the tools to impact the lives of the people around them with the Gospel.”

Children sought for ‘Peter Pan Jr.’ auditions

Children ages 5-18 are invited to attend audition for Smith Creative’s production of “Peter Pan Jr.”

Those who audition are asked to bring a short monologue and musical selection if they have one. No prior experience is necessary and there is no cost to audition.

Four performances are scheduled May 14-17, with most rehearsals taking place Thursdays from 5-7 p.m. and Saturdays from 2-5 p.m.

Stage manager and volunteers also are being sought. Scholarships and discounts are available for registration.

Scott reappoints Schock to state building commission

Gov. Rick Scott has reappointed James Schock to the Florida Building Commission.

Schock, of St. Augustine, is the plans examiner for St. Johns County and served as Jacksonville’s chief building official for a year before his retirement in September 2013. Before that, he worked for the city since 1966.

His term on the board ends Jan. 12, 2019.

The commission is responsible for the development, maintenance and interpretation of the Florida Building Code.

 

Gooljar reappointed to state board

Gov. Rick Scott reappointed Ruphal Gooljar to the state Board of Orthotists and Prosthetists.

Gooljar, of St. Augustine, is the director of orthotics and prosthetics for Nemours Children’s Clinic and will serve until Oct. 31, 2018.

The board’s mission is to ensure the highest standards of orthotic and prosthetic care for people with disabilities.

 

Gunn named to insurance council

Gov. Rick Scott named Marshall “Trey” Gunn II to a spot on the state’s Continuing Care Advisory Council.

The council acts in an advisory capacity to the Office of Insurance Regulation, recommending any changes to state law that relate to continuing care retirement communities.

He’s a partner in Gunn Chamberlin and succeeds Dennis Schelper for a term that ends Sept. 30, 2016.

 

Water taxi contract extended

The city, water-taxi operators and the owner of the boats agreed to extend the Downtown service until March 2.

Initially, the short-term agreement was set to expire Monday.

The initial six-month deal was a short-term contract meant to keep the water taxi operating while the city determined a long-term solution for the service.
