The pension vote will go on.
Slated for Tuesday, a City Council decision on the latest pension reform package was threatened this week by the Concerned Taxpayers of Duval County. The group filed for an injunction to prevent that vote, but Circuit Judge Tom Beverly denied the motion Friday afternoon.
Beverly struck down the so-called 30-year agreement in March after a suit by the watchdog group alleged the deal was violated in private, a violation of state Sunshine laws. A day before that ruling, council defeated the then-most recent attempt at reform with a 9-9 vote.
Since then, council member Bill Gulliford struck up a new bill that largely was based on that defeated bill but with several tweaks.
The Concerned Taxpayers filed the injunction Tuesday, saying the deal violated Beverly’s decision and that the council and Police and Fire Pension Fund weren’t the right parties to negotiate any deal.
