Gov. Rick Scott took a break from Tallahassee and the special legislative session Friday to make an appearance at the JAXUSA Partnership Luncheon.

During questions and answers with Daniel Davis, president of the JAX Chamber, Scott touted the state’s improving employment and the importance of the federal government supporting port projects, including deepening the St. Johns River shipping channel.

Meeting reporters before he headed back to the capital, Scott said he’s committed to working with the Legislature to ensure the future of UF Health Jacksonville.

“We’ll make sure we keep critical services working,” Scott said.

North Florida Council Boy Scouts of America North Florida Council CEO Jack Sears presented the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award to Preston Haskell, founder and president of the Haskell Co.

The JAXUSA Partnership Industry leader award was presented to the PGA Tour to recognize its $151 million regional economic impact and its local philanthropy totaling since 1977 more than $67 million.
