The Jacksonville Transportation Authority spent Monday morning showing off part of its new fleet of compressed natural gas buses.

The buses are anticipated to save JTA $9.2 million over 15 years after 100 buses are converted from diesel. Eleven will be used for the First Coast Flyer rapid-transit system.

That entire fleet will use the fuel source, said JTA CEO Nat Ford, with the first phase expected to be done by the end of the year.

On hand to cut the ribbon for the new buses were City Council member Joyce Morgan, JTA Chair Scott McCaleb, council member Reggie Brown, JTA Vice Chair Isaiah Rumlin, Mayor Lenny Curry, U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown and Ford.
