JaxPort announced Wednesday its board of directors voted unanimously to extend the contract of CEO Eric Green through fiscal year 2024.

The new five-year contract was effective Oct. 1.

“There is no doubt about it, Eric is doing a fantastic job as CEO,” JaxPort Chairman John Baker said in a news release. “This well-deserved contract extension sends a message to our customers and our community that this board stands behind our CEO and will continue to do everything in our power to support him and keep this momentum going.”

Green joined JaxPort in 2005 and was named CEO in 2017. Under Green’s leadership, the port has set container, auto and overall cargo volume records.

Projects under Green’s leadership include securing federal money to deepen the Jacksonville shipping channel to 47 feet to accommodate larger ships, expansion of the port’s auto handling capacity and a long-term agreement with Carnival Cruise Line.

JaxPort and SSA Marine also broke ground Nov. 22 on a $238.7 million international container terminal at JaxPort’s Blount Island Marine Terminal.
