The U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Transit Administration announced July 17 the award of two COVID-19 relief grants totaling $12.9 million to the Jacksonville Transportation Authority.
The money will support administrative expenses associated with transit, passenger ferry and Skyway operations.
“We know many of our nation’s public transportation systems are facing extraordinary challenges and these funds will go a long way to assisting our transit industry partners in battling COVID-19,” said FTA acting Administrator K. Jane Williams said in a news release.
The grants are in addition to the $15.2 million JTA received in May.
The Federal Transit Administration also issued a Safety Advisory that directs transit agencies to develop and implement policies and procedures regarding face coverings and personal protective equipment, cleaning and disinfection of frequently touched surfaces, physical separation and hand hygiene consistent with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidance.
The grants can be used to cover 100% of those costs.
