The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department held a groundbreaking ceremony Sept. 22 for Fire Station 74 in the Southside eTown community.
The 9,500-square-foot station will have three bays with room for three emergency vehicles. It is planned for completion next spring, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said in a flyer about the ceremony.
Under development by The PARC Group , the master-planned eTown community is designed for up to 2,000 homes along E-Town Parkway, east of Florida 9B.
“Fire Station 74’s location in eTown is key to expediting our service within Jacksonville’s fast-growing Southside. And, the station’s contemporary design will complement the modern architecture prevalent throughout the eTown community,” the JFRD said in the flyer.
The city issued a permit Aug. 16 for Auld & White Constructors LLC to build the station at a construction cost of $3.4 million. Dasher Hurst Architects is the architect.
The city has issued or is reviewing permits totaling project costs of almost $4.1 million for the project, which is at 11010 Meeting St.
JFRD Chief Keith Powers told News4Jax the project is a $5.5 million investment.

acksonville Mayor Lenny Curry, who attended the groundbreaking, said on Twitter the station will reduce response time in the area to 8 minutes or less.
Retail also is coming to eTown. The PARC Group announced in August that Publix Super Markets Inc., with a drive-thru pharmacy, will open in early 2023 to anchor a new shopping center in Exchange East in the eTown Village Center.
A Gate convenience store also is under development in the community.
