The city had a groundbreaking March 28 for Fire Station 65 at 7698 Bailey Body Road at southeast Atlantic Boulevard and Arlington Road South.
City leaders and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department officials participated in the ceremony, Jacksonville Daily Record news partner News4jax.com reported.
“This area continues to be one of the fastest growing areas of town, and this new station will help us better protect the lives and property of thousands of residents,” city Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Charles E. Moreland said in a post on Twitter.
The city issued three permits March 21 for Stellar Group Inc. for the $5 million construction job on 2.68 acres.
The city issued the site-clearing permit March 17 at a job cost of $100,000.
Stellar is the general contractor for the fire station. It said in a news release the project should be completed by November.
Stellar said the 9,700-square-foot facility will include these features:
● Three fire engine bays.
● A bunk room sleeping 10 firefighters.
● Kitchen and dining rooms.
● Locker rooms.
● Dispatch and communications rooms.
● A fitness room.
● A retention pond.
● A staff parking lot and visitor spaces.
