The city announced April 15 there will be an open house for the planned rejuvenation of Metropolitan Park on April 17.

The event is 3-7 p.m. Downtown in the Jacksonville Main Library lounge at 303 N. Laura St.

Metropolitan Park is at 4110 Gator Bowl Blvd. south of  EverBank Stadium along the St. Johns River.

“Citizens can come together, share ideas, and contribute to the future of one of our city’s most cherished public spaces,” the city said in a news release. “This is your opportunity to learn about the potential transformations and to contribute your vision to the project. We believe that community input is invaluable in creating a space that reflects the needs and dreams of its users.”

The city said citizens will be able to meet with the design team responsible for the park’s revitalization. It said the Metropolitan Park Revitalization Committee comprises city planners, community leaders, environmental experts and design professionals.

“This is more than just a renovation project; it’s a reimagining of what our communal spaces can be, with sustainability, inclusivity and community needs at the forefront,” it said.

The groundbreaking for the 18.25-acre park was in 1982, according to the city’s website. For many years it was the venue for the Jacksonville Jazz Festival.
