Jacksonville University announced April 15 it is eliminating about 30 courses of study effective with enrollment for the fall 2025 term through the Future Focused program.
The courses of study selected by the trustees, administration and faculty for removal from JU’s catalog were chosen based on low enrollment, the university said.
In addition, 40 faculty members were separated from the university.
According to the announcement, fewer than 100 of JU’s more than 4,000 students are affected by the change.
Courses eliminated:
Health care:
• Respiratory Care bachelor’s completion major
• Communication Sciences and Disorders minor
• Play Therapy certificate
Business:
• Engineering Management major
• FinTech major
• Healthcare Administration major
• MBA Tracks in FinTech, Health Informatics, Health Care Management and Portfolio Management
• Business Foundations Certificate
• Business Law Certificate
• Executive Thought Leadership Certificate
• FinTech Certificate
Arts and sciences:
• Education for Instruction Tracks in Community and English to Speakers of Other Languages
• Data Science major and minor
• Social Sciences major
• Marine Science Oceanography
Fine arts:
• Art History Concentration in Visual Arts
• Glass Concentration in Visual Arts
• Music major (jazz and commercial music, music education, music technology, music therapy)
• Music performance, musical theatre and music composition
• Philosophy major
• Theatre major and minor
• World Languages major and minor
• Master’s of Fine Arts in visual arts
The university will continue to offer 37 of its most in-demand undergraduate majors and minors, which it said represents the majors of 96% of current undergraduate students.
At the graduate level, 15 master’s and doctoral programs remain available in fields including law, public policy, business, health care, marine science and dance.
Also in the restructuring, as of May 5, 2025, the new Linda Berry Stein College of Arts and Sciences will house combined disciplines from the Linda Berry Stein College of Fine Arts & Humanities and the traditional College of Arts and Sciences.
The college will serve about 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students in 15 fields of study in the School of Fine Arts and Humanities, the School of Social Sciences and Education and the School of Science and Mathematics.
