Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii is planning to expand to St. Augustine, its ninth location in Florida.
The chain, founded in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii, is targeting a fall 2025 opening at 4085 Florida A1A, replacing Mangrove Surf Shop.
Other Florida stores are in Clearwater Beach, Destin, Fort Myers, Lutz, Naples (two), Pensacola Beach and Sarasota.
St. Johns County issued a build-out permit for the $350,000 project July 1. Chris Matras Enterprises of Bradenton is the contractor.
Allen Stanczak is the franchisee, according to a Aug. 5 news release.
Stanczak, a St. Augustine resident, has managed a portfolio of Bad Ass Coffee locations for more than a decade, according to the release. His franchise territory stretches from Jacksonville Beach to Crescent Beach, with additional expansion plans in development.
Founded in 1989, Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii serves Hawaiian coffee, signature lattes, cold brews, teas, blended drinks and a food menu with Hawaiian-inspired items. The stores also offer branded merchandise, according to badasscoffee.com.
Additional Florida expansion, its website says, includes a store in Naples. Other locations are in development in Boulder, Colorado; Henderson, Nevada; Honolulu; and Las Vegas.
