Daily Record’s ‘Stadium of the Future’ coverage wins gold in statewide contest

The Jacksonville Daily Record takes a total of 12 awards for editorial and advertising excellence at the Florida Media Conference.

The Jacksonville Daily Record and JaxDailyRecord.com won 12 awards for editorial and advertising excellence at the Florida Media Conference.

The awards were announced July 31 and Aug. 1 at the Sunseeker Resort Charlotte Harbor.

In the 2024 Florida Press Association Weekly Newspaper Contest, the Daily Record won 10 awards.

The Daily Record competes in Division B, publications with print circulations of 4,000 to 15,000.

Managing Editor Ric Anderson won first place for In-Depth Reporting for coverage of the Jacksonville Jaguars “Stadium of the Future” deal.

Anderson wrote dozens of stories about the deal and its community benefits agreement as it worked its way toward City Council approval.

Anderson also won:

• Second place for Local Government Reporting for “Affordable Housing: Facts and friction” about the backlash and debate over affordable housing in Jacksonville. 

• Second place for Education News for “LaVilla chosen for new UF graduate campus, Semiconductor Institute.

• Third place for State & Local Tax Reporting for his coverage of the 2024-25 city budget.

Anderson, Associate Editor Max Marbut and Staff Writer Dan Macdonald won first place for Breaking News Story. “Downtown’s Dark Day,” looked at the aftermath of the Rise Doro apartment fire Downtown.

Editor Monty Zickuhr won first place for Informational Graphic about the Jacksonville City Council.

Zickuhr won second place for Overall Graphic Design and for Online Breaking News Story for the Rise Doro fire.

The editorial staff of the Daily Record won second place for Website Excellence for JaxDailyRecord.com and for Best Headline.

The winning headlines were “Restaurateurs have a school of businesses on the hook,” about Nathan Stuart and Margo Klar and their Fish House restaurants; “So long, Wells Farg_” about the removal of the Well Fargo sign from 1 Independent building Downtown and “ ‘Deceit and Greed’: Zahn Gets 4 Years” about the sentencing of former JEA CEO Aaron Zahn.

The honored Daily Record editorial team also included Mark Basch, David Crumpler, Karen Brune Mathis, Scott Sailor and J. Brooks Terry

Advertising Awards

In the 2024 Florida Newspaper Advertising & Marketing Executives’ Creative Excellence Contest, Daily Record Advertising Coordinator Codi Gildberg won first place in the Auto/Boat/RV Digital Social category for the Tom Bush Family of Dealerships. 

She won third place in Content Advertising for Hunger Fight. 

It featured a print ad by Capitol Glass & Shower Doors joining the fight to end hunger.
