UF Health, with three emergency and urgent care centers in Jacksonville, seeks a building permit from the city to build a fourth, this one north of Atlantic Boulevard and west of the Intracoastal Waterway.
Marand Builders Inc. in Jacksonville Beach is the contractor for the estimated almost $14.59 million project for the University of Florida Health Emergency and Urgent Care Center – Intracoastal at 13701 Atlantic Blvd.
The project involves site work and construction of a two-story building with a 12,500-square-foot emergency department on the first floor and business use on the second floor for future build-out.
The 24,865-square-foot structure is planned on 2.1 acres.
Shands Jacksonville Medical Center Inc. is listed in documents as the property owner. Its primary campus is at 655 W. Eighth St. in Springfield north of Downtown.
Duval County Property Appraiser records show Shands Jacksonville Foundation Inc. paid $5 million for the Atlantic Boulevard property, comprising three parcels, May 5, 2025.
Marand Builders will demolish existing structures, perform site work and build the new building.
The three parcels identified in a JEA utility service determination request are next to the Terrabella Coastal Apartments. The parcels are at 13679 and 13711 Atlantic Blvd., now used primarily as open storage but with several small buildings that include metal garages.
The site is east of the Harbour Village shopping center, which is anchored by The Fresh Market and Crunch Fitness.
UF Health has UF Health Emergency & Urgent Care Center locations at 11251 Lamb Tail Lane in Baymeadows; 888 Lane Ave. S. in West Jacksonville; and 11277 New Kings Road in Northwest Jacksonville. All are open 24/7.
UF Health Jacksonville announced in August 2022 that it partnered with Intuitive Health, based in Plano, Texas, to build and operate those three combined ER and urgent care facilities.
Site development plans for the Intracoastal center list Intuitive Health as the owner.
Intuitive Health says it was founded in 2008 and pioneered the combined emergency room and urgent care model.
It says it partners with established health systems nationwide to build, operate and launch retail health care facilities that provide urgent care and emergency room services under one roof.
