JetBlue plans to add four nonstop flights per week from Jacksonville to San Juan, Puerto Rico, the Jacksonville Aviation Authority said Dec. 3.
JAA said in a release that JetBlue's year-round service between Jacksonville International Airport and Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in San Juan would operate Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
The flights will be aboard an Airbus A320 and are scheduled to begin March 13.
JAA CEO Mark VanLoh said in the release that flights to San Juan, a sister city of Jacksonville, "are vital for the Northeast Florida community."
“Whether traveling to Puerto Rico for business, to visit family or on vacation, we believe JetBlue’s flight will be incredibly popular," he said.
JetBlue plans to increase its average daily departures from Puerto Rico to more than 40. In addition to the Jacksonville flights, the airline will offer daily service from San Juan to Philadelphia daily; four days per week to Norfolk, Virginia, and Buffalo, New York; and three days per week to Richmond, Virginia.
JetBlue is promoting the new flights by offering introductory one-way fares starting at $99, investing.com reported.
The air carrier has operated in Puerto Rico since 2002. It employs nearly 800 crew members across the island.
A previous JetBlue route from Jacksonville to San Juan was discontinued in 2014 after launching in May 2011.
