Jacksonville will be among the first Florida cities to have a Fatburger restaurant, according to a July 2 email from FAT Brands Inc., which franchises the units.
The Hollywood, California, chain expects to open 40 locations in Florida over the next 10 years, it said.
Fatburger bills itself as the “Last Great Hamburger Stand.”
The first area location is expected to open this year at 348 Blanding Blvd. in Orange Park at the site of a former Dairy Queen.
Fatburger has two Florida locations: In Riverview, near Tampa, and in Celebration, near Orlando.
Fatburger is a 73-year-old company that originated in Los Angeles. It specializes in cooked-to-order burgers made from fresh ground beef, with sizes ranging from one-third to 1.5 pounds.
The chain offers fat and skinny fries, sweet potato fries, made-in-house onion rings and chili. Milkshakes are made with 100% ice cream.
Other menu items include vegan milkshakes made with cashew-based ice cream, oat milk and coconut milk whipped cream. Fatburger is not a certified vegan restaurant.
There are 85 Fatburger locations around the country. At some stores Fatburger shares space with wing specialists Buffalo’s Cafe Express and Hot Dog on a Stick.
