With a permit issued July 28, Game Show Battle Rooms can build-out at St. Johns Town Center toward its planned opening in fall 2025.

The company says the experience is designed for groups – of friends, family, clubs and employees – to “join us for a high-energy, immersive kind of party.”

The city issued a permit for contractor VCMG LLC of Sebastian to renovate the 3,425-square-foot space at 4720 Town Crossing Drive, Unit 131, at a project cost of $400,000.

The location is between Jos. A Bank and Playa Bowls. Two more tenants in the strip building are The Escape Game and Panera Bread.

Game Show Battle Rooms will occupy the storefront where Zula Surf Co. closed May 31. The company’s Ponte Vedra Beach location remains open. Shoppers also can shop at the website, zula-surf.co.

Game Show Battle Rooms, founded in 2017, is based in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

The GameShowBattleRooms.com site lists 16 locations nationwide and shows five locations, including Jacksonville, as coming soon. Jacksonville is listed as a fall 2025 opening.

GSBR Jax LLC is shown as the operator of the Jacksonville venue. Among its members is company founder and owner David Sauer.

Plans show two “showdown” arenas for Primetime and Classic games. Each arena has a host area and a recreational area for participants.

There also is a conference room.

How it works

Game Show Battle Rooms are open daily and booked at least a day in advance.

Arenas are booked for about an hour, with an additional 15 minutes for groups of more than 20.

The Atlanta venue rentals start at 8 a.m. and the last game period starts at 11 p.m. The cost is $36 a person.

Among the locations, tickets range from $35 to $40.

Participants are split into two teams, who pick out a name and wear name tags. The teams are then brought into the arena and play three different games.

Game Show Battle Rooms recommends that participants be at least age 10.

Arena types

There are two arenas – Classic and Primetime.

Primetime Showdowns offer “the thrill of three primetime game show games, all facilitated by our charismatic game show hosts.”

The games include Survey Battles (a “friendly feud” of the top four survey answers) MatchUp Wars (predict teammates’ answers); and Time Rush Games (60-second skill challenges).

Classic Showdowns offer “the thrill of three classic game show games,” also with game show hosts.

The games include Survey Battles; Spin And Solve (spin the wheel and solve the phrase); and What’s That Cost  (name that price games and The Drop).

Each round is worth a Battle Point, and the team with the most is considered the champion.

Groups of eight to 32 typically can book any day of the week. Larger groups can be accommodated by combining rooms.

Game Show Battle Rooms also offer roadshows for groups of 80 to more than 500 who can lease larger venues.

The company also offers virtual one-hour games for groups to play by Zoom.

The venues hire hosts and tech coordinators.
