Cracker Barrel is renovating the original Maple Street Biscuit Co. location in San Marco, where the breakfast-lunch concept’s founders launched the chain in 2012.
The city is reviewing a permit application for an estimated $100,000 tenant remodel at the 2,774-square-foot restaurant space at 2004 San Marco Blvd.
Plans show a cosmetic refresh and interior remodel. Exterior modifications limited to signage and painting will be separately permitted.
Oxford Architecture is the architect. Parsons Engineering is the civil engineer. Both are based in Nashville, Tennessee.
The city issued a permit in November for Jacksonville contractor Harbinger to put up a new exterior sign at a project cost of $13,368.
Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Inc. paid $36 million in cash in October 2019 for Maple Street and its 33 restaurants in seven states.
Cracker Barrel, based in Lebanon, Tennessee, now operates at least 69 Maple Streets.
Maple Street’s menu includes biscuits, biscuit sandwiches, biscuit plates, bowls, waffles, sides, coffee, drinks and more.
Calico Cactus
One Maple Street location in Jacksonville is reverting back to one of the founders.
Maple Street founder and seller Scott Moore is taking over the Murray Hill Maple Street space at 1171 Edgewood Ave. S. with his new breakfast taco concept, Calico Cactus, which focuses on soft tacos, queso and coffee.
Moore said May 22 he had signed the lease for the location, making it his second for Calico Cactus. The first opened Jan. 14 in St. Augustine.
He said the Maple Street lease was expiring in August. The Murray Hill restaurant was the fourth location.
Moore anticipates opening about October after building-out the restaurant for Calico Cactus.
Maple Street, which also sells breakfast tacos, now will have six Northeast Florida restaurants.
