Huey Magoo’s Chicken Tenders wants to open in a closed Dunkin’ restaurant space along Baymeadows Road.

Huey Magoo’s, which calls itself “The Filet Mignon of Chicken,” sells grilled, hand-breaded or “sauced” premium chicken tenders, salads, sandwiches and wraps.

The city is reviewing a permit application for Kaneco Construction of Atlantic Beach to renovate the 2,010-square-foot space at 8520 Baymeadows Road, Unit 1, at an estimated project cost of $375,842.

Plans indicate nine tables and 34 seats as well as a drive-thru window.

Doherty Sommers Architects Engineers Inc. of Jacksonville Beach is the architect.

Judy L. Phillips of the Judy L. Phillips Revocable Trust Agreement bought the 4,000-square-foot building May 1, 2025, for $2.275 million. The structure was built in 2014 on a 0.65-acre site.

Huey Magoo’s Chicken Tenders is planned at 8520 Baymeadows Road, Unit 1.

Verizon leases Unit 2. The location is in front of the Four Points by Sheraton Jacksonville Baymeadows hotel.

The site is between Interstate 95 and Philips Highway.

The permit application lists Michael Phillips as the owner.

Phillips, a Huey Magoo’s franchisee through Birdbox Ventures LLC, has opened three of the chicken tenders restaurants. Those opened in Jacksonville Beach in October 2021; the Mandarin area of Jacksonville in May 2022; and in the Wildlight area of Yulee in July 2024.

When the Yulee unit opened, a news release said it was the third of six Huey Magoo’s restaurants that Phillips will open.

Phillips said June 5 by email that the Baymeadows restaurant will open by early fall.

He chose the location because of its “lack of fast-casual options for a lot of density both population wise and daytime office.”

Phillips is a former franchisee of multiple units with Little Caesars Pizza and Jersey Mike’s Subs.

Orlando-based Huey Magoo’s, founded in 2004, has 76 locations in at least a dozen states with franchises in development in 15 states.
