The Jacksonville City Council confirmed Charles “Chuck” Gibson as the city’s new chief building inspector June 10.

Council voted 18-0, with member Ju’Coby Pittman not present, to confirm Mayor Donna Deegan’s appointment of Gibson as the director of the Building Inspection Division.

Gibson comes to the position after serving as building inspection manager and deputy building official with the city.

He succeeds Joshua Gideon as chief building inspector. In April, Gideon joined the administrative staff of the city of Atlantic Beach as the municipal government’s Building Official.

Gideon retired from the city in February after 20 years of service.
