Ascension St. Vincent’s St. Johns County is offering a noninvasive method of detecting heart disease that eliminates the need for stress tests.
The cardiovascular CT scan provides a three-dimensional look at how the heart is functioning and allows doctors to detect any abnormalities, Ascension St. Vincent’s said in a June 10 news release.
The images can detect blockages, plaque buildup and other issues that could indicate heart disease or other problems, in some cases before patients are symptomatic.
“We’re dedicated to growing alongside our community and expanding the cardiovascular services that our neighbors need,” said Cory Darling, president and CEO of St. Vincent’s St. Johns County, in the release.
“Providing access to state-of-the-art heart imaging aligns with our commitment to keeping healthcare local and allowing our patients to receive care with the providers they trust.”
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in adults in Florida with one death every 33 seconds throughout the United States, the release said.
“Earlier and more accurate detection of heart disease allows us to treat patients more effectively and support them in managing their condition,” said Dr. Lucien Abboud, cardiologist at St. Vincent’s.
Ascension St. Vincent’s St. Johns County is at 205 Trinity Way along Interstate 95 and County Road 210 in Saint Johns.
