The Rail Yard District Business Council honored Jacksonville community leader J.F. Bryan IV on June 11 with its All-Aboard Award for exemplary service.

Bryan was recognized for his work with Local Initiatives Support Corp. (LISC) Jacksonville, the local arm of a national nonprofit that funds affordable housing and commercial development in economically challenged neighborhoods.

Bryan was instrumental in establishing LISC Jacksonville and served as chair of the local organization’s board for 20 years.

A Jacksonville native and former insurance executive, Bryan has been involved in numerous civic and community organizations, including the Jacksonville Symphony Association, Jacksonville Community Council Inc., Jacksonville University and the Jacksonville Zoo and Botanical Gardens.

Bryan received the award during the Rail Yard District Business Council’s second annual Local Motion Luncheon. The luncheon was held at the Glass Factory event venue at 601 N. Myrtle Ave.

Jeff Edwards, president of the council, said support from LISC was vital in revitalization efforts in the district. The organization won the All-Aboard Award in 2024.

This year’s luncheon supported efforts by the council to hire a full-time executive director and establish an office.

Edwards said the director was needed to maintain the momentum of the revitalization effort by working to attract and coordinate volunteers, raise community support, facilitate fundraising and advocate for the district.

The council needs to raise $100,000 annually to hire the director and set up an office. For information, visit railyardjax.org.

Speakers and attendees included Jacksonville City Council members Tyrona Clark-Murray and Jimmy Peluso; Ed Randolph, executive director of the city Office of Economic Development; Sherry Magill, retired president of the Jessie Ball duPont Fund; Nina Sickler, city director of public works; and Kay Ehas, CEO of Groundwork Jacksonville.

Edwards said the Rail Yard District, located immediately west of Downtown’s LaVilla District, is home to 350 businesses with a combined workforce of more than 6,000 employees.
