JEA lineworkers excelled in a national annual competition this year, prompting honors from the Jacksonville City Council.

Teams for the city-owned utility won awards in six categories at the 2025 Public Power Lineworkers Rodeo, held in March in Roseville, California. Fifty-two public power utilities nationwide took part in the competition to demonstrate their skills and knowledge of linework.

JEA’s awards include first-place Overall Apprentice for Ryan Kornegay, a three-time winner in the category. David Hicken, Caleb Macabitas and Cody Stokes placed second in the Overall Journeyman Team category.

Noah Sapp won three awards in the Apprentice category; first place for Lightning Arrester Jumper Replacement; second place for Obstacle Course; and second place for Sidewalk Guy Installation.

Council honored the JEA competitors on June 10, with Council President Randy White saying, “Their training and success on the national level reflect JEA’s values and commitment to our community.”
