May 1 was declared Law Day in America by act of Congress in 1961 to celebrate the rule of law and role of the courts in a free society.

The Jacksonville Bar Association celebrated the day with an awards ceremony May 1 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Jacksonville Riverfront by recognizing some of its members, as well as someone who is not an attorney but makes a positive impact helping the legal community exceed its goals.

The Jacksonville Daily Record Lawyer of the Year Award recognizes a local attorney who is committed to making a difference in the lives of people in our community, over and above the practice of law.
