The entertainment venue FIVE opens May 13 in the Five Points Theater building in Five Points.

It is at 1028 Park St. in the former Sun-Ray Cinema space.

BoyWithUke is scheduled to perform opening night and Kameron Marlow on May 15, according to a May 12 news release.

Marathon Live of Nashville, Tennessee, turned the former movie theater into an up-to-date concert venue.

Built in 1927, the theater served as a movie theater and as a music venue over the years.

It was most recently Sun-Ray Cinema, which operated from 2011 to 2024 and closed in July. It was the music venue Club 5 from 1991 to 2004.

It was the first movie house to show “talkies” when it opened as the Riverside Theatre. It also had a stage for live performances.

The renovations incorporated the building’s historic exterior, marquee, original glass, plaster and wood features. The original projection booth will serve as a VIP area. The balcony has been expanded and restrooms remodeled. There are new bars and a state-of-the-art light and sound system. Its capacity is 1,250.

Permits estimated the renovation at $1.4 million. The theater area is 13,320 square feet. Avant Construction Group of Jacksonville is the contractor. The top three stories are available as office space.

“It has been an incredibly fun challenge to rework this amazing theater to host live performances again!,” said Josh Billue, Marathon Live chief development officer, in the release.

Other acts scheduled to appear are Lawrence, Young Nudy, Turnover, Drivin N Cryin and Reggaeton Party. Concert and ticket information can be found at fivejax.com.

Marathon Live manages venues in Nashville and Chattanooga, Tennessee, Little Rock, Arkansas, and St. Louis.

The release said Marathon Live also is planning to open another venue in the Dennis + Ives project in Jacksonville’s Rail Yard district.

FIVE had planned to be open in January but there were permitting delays.

Property owner 1028 Park LLC is based in Decatur, Georgia. Andrew Seng and Jay Weaver, founders of Union South Partners, bought the building on May 16, 2024, for $7 million from 5 Points Theatre Building LLC, led by the Shad family.
