Chicken fingers chain Raising Cane’s identified two more potential Jacksonville locations, boosting its presence to at least four possible sites that include one it says is “coming soon” to Southwest Jacksonville.
The latest two sites are closed Pollo Tropical restaurants in The Markets at Town Center in Southside and in River City Marketplace in North Jacksonville.
Both of the Pollo Tropicals closed in February.
City utility JEA is reviewing service determination requests for the two sites, which means the locations are being considered for Raising Cane’s but not that deals have been done.
Kimley-Horn Jacksonville is the civil engineer for both projects, which appear to entail the demolition of the Pollo Tropical buildings and construction for Raising Cane’s.
Raising Cane’s is considering:
• A 2,868-square-foot, 95-seat, double-drive-thru restaurant at 4863 Gate Parkway in The Markets at Town Center. The review package describes it as a “scrape and build site plan.” There is a 3,407-square-foot restaurant building on the 0.9-acre site that was built in 2010.
• A 95-seat, double-drive-thru restaurant at 730 Skymarks Drive in River City Marketplace. The application shows it as 2,863 square feet and the site plan shows it as 2,683 square feet. The existing 3,307-square-foot restaurant was built in 2012 on 1.24 acres. While not specified as a scrape-and-build, the sketch plan show the new restaurant is smaller than the existing building.
The two identified Raising Cane’s locations comprise one in Regency and one in Southwest Jacksonville.
• JEA issued a service availability letter April 30 for a proposed 2,786-square-foot, 120-seat Raising Cane’s on 1.34 acres of the former Regency Square Mall property at 9501 Arlington Expressway that is slated for redevelopment. It would be on an outparcel at Arlington Expressway and Atlantic Boulevard.
• Raising Cane’s says it is “coming soon” to its first Jacksonville location at 8308 Merchants Way in Oakleaf Station at southwest Argyle Forest Boulevard and Merchants Way in Southwest Jacksonville.
The 29-year-old chain is based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Its menu comprises box combos of chicken fingers, fries, coleslaw, Cane’s Sauce, Texas toast and drinks. The sandwich combo comprises three fingers on a toasted bun.
