A 10th area Aldi conversion has been identified in Northeast Florida.

The city is reviewing a permit for the Winn-Dixie store at 3538 Blanding Blvd. in the Cedar Hills Shopping Center in West Jacksonville to be divided into two spaces that include an Aldi discount grocer.

APD Engineering & Architecture PLLC of Victor, New York, is the architect and engineer. No contractor is specified.

Plans show the Winn-Dixie store at 3538 Blanding Blvd. in the Cedar Hills Shopping Center in West Jacksonville converted into an Aldi.

Plans indicate the 60,861-square-foot Winn-Dixie, which is larger than most of the chain’s stores, will be separated into a 25,786-square-foot Aldi with a residual 35,075 square feet of space for a future use.

The store was built in 1961.

Aldi has been converting 220 former Southeastern Grocers stores, comprising the Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket brands – that it bought last year.

The 10 identified so far in Northeast Florida include:

Duval County: The first converted Aldi opened March 20 in a former Harveys at 2261 Edgewood Ave. W. in Northwest Jacksonville. Other neighborhoods with conversions include Brierwood, Cedar Hills, Downtown, Fort Caroline and Girvin. The Downtown store was a Harveys Supermarket and others are Winn-Dixie.

Nassau County: Fernandina Beach Winn-Dixie.

Clay County: Fleming Island Winn-Dixie.

St. Johns County: Saint Johns and St. Augustine Winn-Dixies.

In March 2024, German grocer Aldi bought Jacksonville-based Southeastern Grocers Inc., which operated about 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi.

Aldi then started converting some stores to its banner.

The U.S. headquarters for Aldi is in Batavia, Illinois.

In February 2025, a new company, Southeastern Grocers LLC, bought back 170 stores from Aldi.

Aldi said then that it plans to convert about 220 Southeastern Grocers locations to the Aldi format through 2027.

A February news release said Southeastern Grocers will continue to operate the remaining stores identified for conversion to Aldi until they are closed for the renovation.

“To ensure a smooth transition for our associates, SEG will continue working diligently with Aldi to provide support and opportunities to each associate at converting stores, including having the first opportunity to apply for roles at newly converted Aldi stores or remain with Winn-Dixie and transfer to another store,” said a spokesperson for SEG in a previous statement.

Aldi stores are up to about half the size of the Southeastern Grocers supermarkets that are being converted, which means landlords will have more space available for lease.

Aldi has about 2,400 U.S. stores and said the Southeastern Grocers acquisition was part of a plan to add 800 stores nationwide by 2028 through new openings and store conversions.

As of May 14, Aldi had at least 14 stores open in Northeast Florida, comprising nine in Jacksonville and five in Clay, Nassau and St. Johns counties.
