Max’s Restaurant will open May 31 in College Park, the former Town & Country Shopping Center, in Arlington.
It is at 907 University Blvd. N., near Legacy Ministries. It announced the opening May 28 on social media.
The 4,656-square-foot restaurant specializes in Philippine cuisine.
It seats 148, according to building plans.
The Philippines-based Max’s Restaurant began in 1945 when Maximo Gimenez, a Stanford–educated teacher, befriended the American occupation troops stationed at Quezon City.
He befriended military members, offering them drinks at his home. When friends insisted on paying for the hospitality, Gimenez opened the first Max’s, which sold steak, chicken and drinks.
It became known as “The House That Fried Chicken Built.” The logo is “Max’s Restaurant Since 1945.”
The restaurant has become an international brand with more than 200 locations around the world including 180 in the Philippines.
The menu also includes appetizers, vegetables and seafood, soups, rice and noodles, desserts, beverages and “Ruby’s Favorites” such as beef peanut stew, crispy pork hock, crispy pork belly, rich meat stew, beef steak, pork in shrimp paste, and sizzling diced chicken.
College Park is at northeast Arlington Expressway and University Boulevard in Arlington.
Jacksonville-based JWB Real Estate Capital bought and is redeveloping the 71-year-old College Park retail plaza that was built between 1953 and 1979.
Max’s will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
