With seven 1928 Cuban Bistro restaurants throughout Northeast Florida, Rebecca Gonzalez is bringing an eighth, this time to the Brooklyn/Riverside area of Downtown Jacksonville.
The city issued a permit Oct. 7 for AEC Integrated LLC to convert the closed Tossgreen at 501 Riverside Ave., Unit 107, into 1928 Cuban Bistro at a project cost of $64,000.
The 1928 Cuban Bistro will occupy 1,460 square feet of space on the ground floor. Tossgreen closed there in January as it continues to operate in VyStar Tower at 76 S. Laura St. Downtown.
KBY Inspection & Plan Review LLC provided private plan review for 1928 Cuban Bistro.
Riverside Avenue Partners Ltd. owns the 12-story 501 Riverside office building, at Riverside Avenue and Forest Street.
The building has 221,000 square feet of Class A office and retail space and a private parking garage next door to the Fidelity National Information Services Inc. headquarters.
Primary tenants include Pinnacle Financial Partners, Morgan & Morgan and Gallagher. NAI Hallmark is the landlord representative.
Owner Rebecca Gonzalez now has seven 1928 Cuban Bistro restaurants in Duval, Clay, Nassau and St. Johns counties comprising locations in Baymeadows, Emerson, Jacksonville Beach, Ortega, Saint Johns, Fernandina Beach and Fleming Island.
The location at Emerson Street near Philips Highway, in San Marco East Plaza, also serves as her catering kitchen.
Gonzalez began with one restaurant in 2019 along Baymeadows Road near San Jose Boulevard, building the menu around family recipes from Cuba.
1928 Cuban Bistro’s menu includes breakfast all day, lunch and, depending on the location, dinner.
Sandwiches include The Cuban, Pan con Lechon and more; wraps; salads; empanadas; plates; sides; soup; pastries; and desserts such as flan, churros and bunuelos.
There also are Cuban coffees, tea and other drinks.
