Southern Roost, which specializes in boneless chicken sandwiches and tenders, is advancing plans for a restaurant in the Wildlight community in Nassau County.
City-owned utility provider JEA is reviewing a service request filed Oct. 9.
Southern Roost, through SR Yulee LLC, owns property at 87 Wildworks Ave., about 2 miles east of Interstate 95. A building permit is under county review as of Aug. 18.
Site plans by Gainesville-based GSE Engineering & Consulting Inc. show a 4,942-square-foot fast-casual restaurant with a dual drive-thru and 51 parking spaces.

Southern Roost has two Georgia locations in Blackshear and Kingsland. The brand is part of the Waycross-based Concept 99 Group, which also manages Jerry J’s Southern Kitchen and Hog-N-Bones.
The menu features fried and grilled chicken tenders, sandwiches, salads and bowls. Specialty sandwiches include the Dirty Bird, made with house pimento cheese and bacon jam; the Rippin’ Roost, with buffalo sauce and ranch; and the grilled chicken club, served with lettuce, tomato, pickles, mayonnaise, bacon and Colby Jack cheese.
Side items include pimento cheese grits, cheese curds, broccoli cheddar soup, grape salad and seasoned potato wedges.

The restaurant will likely operate 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and be closed Sundays, consistent with its other locations.
“Our lunch and dinner hours will accommodate everyone, from Little League practices to business luncheons and more,” the southernroost.com website says.
Southern Roost would join other Yulee food and beverage options, including Anejo Cocina, Firehouse Subs and Grumpy’s. Huey Magoo’s and Wawa opened July 11, 2024.
The Nassau County Development Review Committee reviewed preapplication plans Feb. 25 at the James S. Page Governmental Complex in Yulee, advising on parking, bicycle access, lighting and landscaping.
