Sawgrass Country Club will undergo $55 million in capital improvements under a plan approved by the club’s membership, according to an Oct. 22 news release.

The release said the plan will fund a 7,347-square-foot fitness center expansion, an updated Beach Club Pavilion and dining area, a refreshed Tennis Pavilion, 13 new tennis courts and a 27-hole golf course renovation led by architects Dana Fry and Jason Straka.

The private club, founded in 1974, is at 10034 Golf Club Drive in Ponte Vedra Beach.

In 2021, it underwent a $20 million renovation of its clubhouse. Auld & White Constructors of Jacksonville was the general contractor. Peacock + Lewis, with offices in North Palm Beach and Naples, Florida, was the architect. The facility is 63,136 square feet.

Construction and renovation on the new improvements are expected to begin in November. The release did not include architect or general contractor information.

“Our members’ enthusiasm and support throughout the planning process have been truly inspiring,” said Stefan Brunt, general manager and CEO of Sawgrass Country Club.

The Tournament Players Championship was played at the club from 1977 to 1981. The following year, the tournament moved to its permanent home across A1A to the TPC Sawgrass course.

Membership has reached capacity and there is a waiting list to join, according to the club’s website.
