Publix renovating its Tinseltown-area supermarket

The city of Jacksonville permit shows an almost $2 million upgrade for the 23-year-old store in Deerwood Lake Commons.

Publix Super Markets Inc. is cleared for an almost $2 million renovation of its Tinseltown-area store at 4320 Deerwood Parkway.

The Lakeland-based grocery chain regularly updates its stores by remodeling or rebuilding them.

Tenant Contractors Inc. of Jacksonville is shown as the contractor to renovate the almost 44,600-square-foot supermarket, which is across Southside Boulevard from the commercial area known as Tinseltown because of its anchor, the Cinemark Tinseltown and XD theater complex.

NV5 Inc. provided private plan review. Jacobs of Orlando is the architect.

Renovations include updates and upgrades throughout the store, including flooring, freezers, coolers and aisles, as well as new checkout stands, displays, bakery and deli furnishings, produce and floral areas, self check-out corral and more.

Publix typically remains open during a renovation. 

The grocer leases the store from Phillips Edison Group LLC of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Duval County Property Appraiser records show the store was built in 2003.

Publix operates on 7.55 acres within the Deerwood Lake Commons shopping center at southwest Southside Boulevard and Touchton Road. It is north of Butler Boulevard.

The 67,528-square-foot Deerwood Lake Commons tenants include AAA Club and Crazy Sushi.
